I wouldn’t say they are mad, per se, but rather that most of the people in their life find them to be these rather “mad” individuals for simply chasing a dream which they will personally find to be an utterly pointless and fruitless task in the first place. But you can say that about anything and of anyone. About any such endeavour that any one person might take to doing. Art is utter individuality and it goes far beyond the final product with regards the painting, piece of literature, song, etc. It’s about a personal journey of the mind, no two ways about it. I totally get it when some artists appear to have no interest whatsoever in their art being publicly consumed. Why would they when it is the most peaceful part of their life? The part of their life that only they get to involve themselves in. And, often, it isn’t even a personal choice for them to even be doing it in the first place. It just isn’t. And that, I suppose, is what they mean when they tend to find themselves saying that it chose them and not they it. Yeah, sure, it sounds pretty damn highfalutin and full of self-attention. And sure it might seem pretty damn selfish with regards them taking this time all for themselves. But is it any less selfish for someone, instead, to sit their ass down of an evening and watch the telly? Yeah, we are all rather selfish, but we are also a rather caring and completely compliant set of individuals. The take on most things out there and by the large percentage of people out there is undoubtedly not very… intellectual but rather this habitual response and reaction. Listen to the same damn line of questions and self-aggrandising opinions about the EXACT same subjects and every single hour of every single day 😴 Of course it would make you want to retreat away from that mundane sense of one-mindedness and to rework your own mind’s take on things. Listen to the quotes by artists, etc. And see exactly why it is that those are the very same quotes that end up emblazoned upon walls for the general public to consider and consume in their darker hours, in their hour of absolute need. So, yeah, we absolutely all will consume as well as need art at some point in our lives
